Low Pressure Collages Part 3

A few more low-pressure, evening collages using leftover scraps. These were created one per day this time. I don't overthink the process. This helps to satisfy the create itch along with discovering different color combinations and designs. These collages were created in a smaller sketchbook.

Chill Collaging Session (Music Only)

In this video, I'm working on a geometric collage using monoprinted and painted papers along with a brown envelope. It's music only because I wanted to create while not feeling 100%. Thanks for watching!

Low Pressure Collages Part 1

The other night, I was tired but wanted to create art. My go-to low pressure way to create when I'm tired is to pull random paper scraps then quickly glue them onto a sketchbook page. I don't overthink the process. This helps to satisfy the create itch along with discovering different color combinations and designs. These are the collage sketches from that night's art session. Each one created in about 5 minutes.

"Hanging by a Thread" art journal

I have been using this 8.5”x5” journal as a place to off load paint from my brush, to test pens/crayons/pastels and to glue down random ephemera.  It’s made from a recycled book cover and bound using the Coptic stitch. Each page is pretty full at this point. The next step is to develop the pages into completed journal spreads. The collages that incorporated thread that I started creating in my last journal were inspiring to me so I want to dedicate this journal to continue exploring this style. I thought it would be fun to title this journal so; I’m calling it - “Hanging by a Thread”. These are the four artwork that I have made this past week in this journal.

New sketches in my 4"x6" journal

Here is a link where I first talked about this 4"x6" sketchbook journal, click here.

One of my favorite materials to use in my journals is bleeding tissue paper. I love how it mimics the look of watercolor. The colors and textures were pleasing enough for these two pages in my journal without adding any additional marks.

These two collages were created over a few days. Due only to time constraints in my schedule. I'm adapting the philosophy of non-pressure when creating art. Life has enough pressure without it seeping into my art.

Another collage using bleeding tissue paper. I started with scribbling black india ink on the blank page. The mat medium I used to adhere the bleeding tissue smeared the ink. At first I wanted to clean up the smeared ink. Then I realized that I like the imperfection.

6"x10" collage #09052017

This magazine paper collage was started back in May with the patterned black, light blue and 3 orange triangles papers. Then I stared at it in June, July and August while going through a creative block. Here it is September. I added the pink stripe and realized it is finished. I'm happy with the design.

6"x10" collage #05062017

I'm continuing to explore 6"x10" collages in-between working on fiber projects. To learn more about this series, please click here.

This collage incorporates some magazine papers that have a pattern. I'm pushing myself to use more pattern papers. The obvious area is in the upper right quadrant - yellow curved shape and the area right next to it. Also, it's a bit hard to see that the lower right quadrant with the black curved area have some variance of color.

The Grey scale version is striking. It shows a good balance of light, medium and dark values.
