"Uncomfortable Zone" - sketches 22 - 26

Yup! I'm still creating in my "Uncomfortable Zone" this week. It really is cathartic to add messy layers of paint and markers after spending the day using my left brain. I, also, like that the pages are made with canvas - one side primed and the other side unprimed, instead of paper. This surface can withstand my heavy hand scrubbing the many layers of paint. I can see myself created another sketchbook journal using canvas instead of paper in the near future.

"Uncomfortable Zone" - sketches 17 - 21

I felt like getting messy this week so I brought out my "Uncomfortable Zone" sketchbook journal. Each sketch is 5" square. I must admit that I'm starting to like creating in messy layers of paint.

Surface Art Association - 2017 Initial Challenge

Yes, 2017. It's not a typo. I knew I had some time to finish this piece because the challenge exhibition is scheduled for August 2018.

The requirements for this challenge were that each piece had to include the artist's initials, 8"x8" completed size, mounted on 8"x8"x1.5" canvas/wood panel and ready to hang.

The materials I used were magazine and used tea bag papers. It's machine stitched. For the most part I'm happy with the finished piece. It was fun to incorporate the used tea bag papers in my art, which I haven't done it quite some time. Now I need to start working on this year's challenge piece.

"In Bloom" - 4 new collages

I created in my mini (4" x 5") "In Bloom" sketchbook journal this week. You can read more here and here. These collages were made with the limited time frame. Just like painting, collaging is relaxing for me. I can get into the zone and create.

3 mini books

 "Practice, practice, practice"

In between creating in my sketchbook journals, I have been practicing book binding. When I practice I usually don't use expensive materials. The covers of these 3 books were made using boxes that contained a bar of soap, moisturizer and scraps of mat board. Then magazine scraps were collaged on top and inside. Inexpensive drawing paper was used for the signatures (book pages). Waxed craft thread was used to stitch the covers and signatures.

3 mini books

garden book - 5" x 2.5"

ground book - 4" x 3"

old building book - 3.5" x 2"
