New collages in my art journal

I first talked about this new art journal here.

I created this collage after having two challenging days at my day job. I had not been able to unwind outside of my work hours. I knew it would past and it did. I’m sharing this not for sympathy but to share how I dealt with it. I got up early (4:30am) and felt the need to rip up some papers. I create this collage from some of the ripped papers and in a section from an old dictionary. It was a great way to release the negative feelings so I could be productive that day.

 

A quickly made collage before I started my work day on Friday, April 2^nd.

 

This collage came about because I wanted to practice painting lines using acrylic paint, paintbrush and a ruler. My goal wasn’t to paint uniform lines. Instead, I wanted to be able to paint somewhat straight lines. I like that these lines have subtle changes in opacity and widths while being somewhat straight.

 

I tend to go back and forth between geometric and expressive collages. The constant is that the collages I create are abstract.

Another gem of a quote from a co-worker. We tend to talk a lot about the days of the week.

I used the Pilot Juice Paint Marker - Fine Point - White. I had to write  the quote twice to get the text nice and white. The green painted paper has regular acrylic paint so it's shiny. Next time I used this pen, I wrote on matte acrylic painted paper.

 

Another favorite quote.

I used the Pilot Juice Paint Marker - Fine Point - White on this quote. This time, I used the pen on matte acrylic painted paper for comparison. I had better experience this time. I only had to go over a few letters twice.

 

Title of a book I read many years ago. I don't remember the book and I still stress the small stuff.

I used the Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen White. The Holy Grail of white ink pens. It performed as I expected since I have used this pen many times as most artists have. Dependable go to pen.

 

Not a quote but a work that I have heard many people use this past year.

I wrote this word using the Raymay Florescent Board Marker Pen 2-mm White. I have never of this brand. The pen worked fantastic! I wouldn't call the color florescent but it's a nice thick nib white pen. Comparable to the Sharpie Water Based Paint Marker and Uni Posca Paint Marker. Both of those pens are in this sampler pack as well.

I made a short video about this art journal here. 

I used the Sakura Glaze Gel Pen - White from the JetPens sampler. First time using this pen from Sakura. It took me a few tries to get it to work. To be honest, I thought the pen was deflected until I read the description on JetPens website.

Here is the description from JetPens website:

A favorite for craft and art projects, Sakura Glaze pens feature a unique 3-D ink that leaves a glossy raised line you can see and feel! They can write on regular paper as well as non-porous surfaces like plastic, glass, and metal. Use them on translucent or transparent surfaces to create a stained glass effect.The ink is waterproof on most surfaces, water-based, odorless, and AP certified non-toxic.

For best effect, write slowly to allow a thick line of ink to form and allow the ink to dry completely, which takes up to 10 minutes on most surfaces. Because the ink is thick and slow to dry, it is not ideal for extended writing. The raised effect works best on non-porous, clean, smooth surfaces and can be crushed down by pressing on it.
