Prayer Flag

Back in July the The Prayer Flag blog posted a call for entry to submit prayer flags for an exhibit at Oceanside Museum of Art. This exhibit is in conjunction with Quilt National. True to form, I waited until the last minute to make and send my Prayer Flag off to OMA. I have my fingers crossed that it will arrive before the deadline.

Update: Awhile back I mentioned that I was offering to teach a class on fabric dyeing and marking for the fall session at the Community Center of La Canada-Flintridge. There wasn't enough sign ups for the class so, it was cancelled for this session. The good news is that the Executive Director wants to keep the class on the schedule for future sessions. I'm happy about that. To be continued...

  1. I like to wait until the last minute too! It really keeps things exciting, doesn't it?
I wish wish wish I could take your class! I am interested in fabric dying, but a little scared by all the chemicals and warnings. Knowing me and my messy self... well, who knows what I might ruin. For now, I will stick to paper, glue, and water-based paint!

  2. Sometimes I work better under pressure. No time to agonize over every little thing. Just make it and go!

I love fabric dyeing. Why don't you start with Rit dye? Put some Rit dye, water and fabric in a glass container and pop it in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Quick and easy! Just remember to wear a mask and rubber gloves if you try it. If you don't like the fabric, just stencil/stamp/screen print over it. Just a thought...

  3. This flag composition really talks to me. It is truly a work of art that would be stunning in any size.

  4. Thank you, Linda. It's a very personal prayer flag. I'm finding lately that I enjoy making art when it's personal.
