Rolodex Project - Day 1

I like the idea of challenging myself to create a piece of art every day for a month. The last time I did a self imposed daily challenge was in 2014. You can read about it here.

Starting today, I'm going to create a piece a day until March 31st. This time around I'm using my fabric scraps to make 3" x 5" pieces that will fit into an old Rolodex. This project is helping me to use up my fabric scraps, to practice hand stitching and to create a 3D sculpture using the old Rolodex

Organized fabric scraps

I cut up 31 pieces of Pellon 72F II 2-sided fusible as the support for each piece instead of using the actually card stock from the Rolodex, which I found to be too flimsy.

Rolodex and cut to size pellon

Today's artwork is made from scraps of rusted and hand dyed fabric. I hand stitched using Valdani's Rayon Varigated thread in Old Rose and Brown Vintage Hues.

Day 1 - 3" x 5" artwork
I'm pretty happy with the way the small artwork holds itself up when attached to the Rolodex. One done and 30 to go!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Love this idea, Mia! Your first 3"x5" fabric "card" is very appealing.
