"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

Here is the last page in my "Language" sketchbook journal. As with anything done on a regular basis, creating in a journal has because a habit for me. A good habit. All 60 sketches. I'm already constructing a new journal that I will start creating in this week.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

At my day job this week, I had two separate conversations with co-workers where we commiserated about different work situations. The parting quotes by each co-worker resonated with me. I decided to write these quotes in my journal for safe keeping.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

I have been feeling overwhelmed lately. Juggling my day job, art related responsibilities and opportunities. I was talking to my dear, long-time friend, Gene Brown about it. He said something that resonated with me. "Better to be overwhelmed than underwhelmed". So true, my friend, so true.

This week's sketches in my "Language" sketchbook journal are inspired by this quote. I need to keep the "hustle" going as well as thinking it's "better to be overwhelmed than underwhelmed".

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

I struggled this week with deciding what words to use for these two sketches. What finally came to me was a bad habit that I want to break. At my day job, I tend to apologize too much when I make a mistake. It's a relatively new bad habit - the last 2 years. I'm looking to find new ways to acknowledge my mistake then move on. The sketch on the right represents the bad habit. The sketch on the left represents some word options to break myself of it.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

I'm not a fan of extremely hot weather. This summer has been uncomfortable. I have been dreaming of cool rain and a tropical breeze.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

The last few weeks my life has been consumed by car maintenance. I'm hoping that all of the issues have resolved. Fingers crossed.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

It's been one of those weeks. ***heavy sign*** This week's sketches reflect that sentiment.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

These 2 new sketches created in my "Language" sketchbook journal were loosely inspired by the fireworks that I saw and heard all night on the 4th of July.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

I'm sure glad that I have various sizes of paper in my Language sketchbook journal. The last few days I was busy with non-art related responsibilities. I had short amount of time to create art so it was good to have small (4"x4") pages available for quick sketches. I love the organic feel of these two sketches.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

I have such a heavy heart right now. I'm going to let my art speak for me.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

This week's sketches in my "Language" sketchbook journal are a bit simplistic as compared to past sketches. I'm created in my comfort zone so to speak. When I added the asemic writing to the ground for "words of wisdom", I realized that bit of marking was enough. It made me chuckle. Asemic writing for words of wisdom. Get it? I used "speak up" for the other sketch because it went with "words of wisdom".

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

I'm trying to keep my weekly practice of working in my "Language" sketchbook journal. This week has been a bit difficult because I got so inspired to make books after teaching the book making workshop last Saturday. My plan is to juggle book making and creating in a sketchbook journal...along with working at my day job. Here are this week's sketches created in my "Language" sketchbook journal.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

Back in January, I had planned to work in three sketchbook journals at once. More about the three sketchbook journals click here. It was working out as planned for awhile then I started focusing on creating in one at a time. First was my "Uncomfortable Zone" and now "Language". I should clarify that I'm working on one public sketchbook journal at a time. I have 2 other journals that I'm working on but for now those are remaining private.

But I digress...The reason I'm mentioning this is that I find that I like the continuity of posting one sketchbook journal at a time on social media. It's a good way for me to see the progression of the sketches. I get a clearer perspective on how the sketches look after I post them on social media. Part of the reason I post my art on social media is to document my art journey. The other part is, of course, sharing my art journey.

Here are the 2 new sketches:  "Something in the air" and "magic". I cut out
"Something in the air" from a magazine. In my head, I kept hearing a song with the lyrics - "Something in the air, it's magic". So the other sketch is "magic". I don't know if it's lyrics to an actual song but is should be.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

Usually, "meditate" and "breathe" aren't associated with warm colors. While painting these pieces I thought of how I need to "meditate" and "breathe" when I'm stressed, frustrated, depressed or angry. These are the colors associated with those emotions.

"Language" sketchbook journal - new sketches

After struggling on last 2 sketches , I decided to go back to creating in my comfort zone style with these 2 new sketches so I could regroup and rebuild my confidence. I didn't overwork either design. The colors are close in value. The marks aren't overly busy.
