A fine arts fiber exhibit exploring aspects of self-portraiture. In this exhibit the artist was asked to look beyond the mere physical and instead present an inner view. The art work may reflect how the artist sees themselves at this time, or at a formative moment in their life. Each piece reveals something unique to the individual and at the same time, that which is universal to all.

My piece is called Becoming Me is included in this exhibit.This artwork is a part of the “Peel Away The Layers” series that I started when I was approaching my 50th birthday.  I realized that I was peeling away the layers to become the woman that I am today.  Underneath the layers is a slightly wonky, colorful woman.

Collage #54

I must say that I really like the design of Collage #54. It could be a good start for a fiber piece.

I started by gluing torn pages of a magazine off center vertically down the journal page. Then I painted white and black acrylic paint over the top of the whole page. I wanted convey some sort of division so I painted the left side of the page lighter than the ride. To accentuate the design's two sides, I cut red paper strips and glued them on either side. At this point the collage looked almost done. I've been wanting to incorporate odd shape circles into a collage so I took out a black Sharpie and freehand the circles.

Beginning of 3D artwork

It's a perfect day to paint some fabric for a 3D artwork I've been meaning to start working on. Sometime ago I bought some ProChemical and Dye PROfab transparent textile paint. This is the first time I've tried this brand of textile paint. I love the colors!

First I painted a base ombre of Earth Brown with Jet Black, Rust and Caribbean Breeze (turquoise) on a piece of white fabric 14" x 85".

Even though the first layer had some texture to it when it dried, I decided to add a layer of dry brush on top. Much better!

I love the section where the Caribbean Breeze (turquoise) overlapped the Rust.

Collage #53

Collage #53 is more upbeat than the last 2 collages (Collage #51 and #52). Still a bit chaotic but in cleaner and brighter colors. 

First, I stained the journal paper with water soaked bleeding tissue paper. Once the bleeding tissue paper dried, I removed it to revealed the wonderfully stained journal paper. I love the shapes! It looked a bit unfinished so I added green and yellow acrylic paint splattered over the whole piece. The layering of paint and stain may look chaotic but in a happy way!

Collage #52

Collage #52 is similar to Collage #51 in that it shows how chaotic my life is right now. "Art imitating life".

This collage was made with all leftover papers from other collages and projects. It was made in under 30 minutes. Back in September 2014, I challenged myself to make 30 collages (one per day) for 30 days with each made in less than 30 minutes . You can read about it here.

Collage #51

Collage #51 is a combination of layering paint and paper. The slightly chaotic look of this collage matches what's going on with my life right now. As they say "art imitates life".

I created 2 separate paintings. The first one has blue and green acrylic paint loosely applied on heavy watercolor paper then heavily splattered orange acrylic on top. The second has orange, red and yellow acrylic paint loosely applied on heavy watercolor paper then heavily splattered white acrylic paint on top. After the paint dried, I laid one of the painted papers on top of other and cut diagonal lines to create random sized triangles. Initially,  I was going to attached the pieces together but I like the look of the orange ground peeking through. I glued the painted triangles with Yes Paste.
