Creating 7 mixed media collages in 2 different collage art journals

 

In this video, I show how I created my new daily collages. This time I created in two different collage art journals – 5” square and approximately 7”x10” repurposed encyclopedia. This is a long video! I provided timestamps below if you want to skip around. 

Side note: collage 5 is a hot mess! I decided to keep the footage to share that not every collage works out the way I had planned. I can’t say enough that working in an art journal or sketchbook is so helpful for my creative practice. By the way, the collage was inspired by artist Pat Steir. Creating 1 collage a day for 7 days plus benefits of small art journal/sketchbook

In this video, I talk about the benefits of creating in a small art journal and/or sketchbook. Then I show you the process of creating one collage a day for 7 days in my 5" square collage art journal.

Creating four collages with same composition but different collage papers

The concept for this video is to use the collage composition from Collage with Me #24 to create four collages with different collage materials. It's a good exercise to become more familiar with composition and to explore "What If". What if I use bright colored papers? What if I use altered bleeding tissue paper to give the collage a transparent look? You can explore different collage materials without the extra step on creating a new composition each time.

My first tab binding board book - tour video (music only)

My first attempt at making a tab binding board book. The placement of the tabs are slightly off but I know how to fix it for next time. It was fun to make this book in a different design and color palette than my usual style. Overall, I'm happy with the way it turned out. I will definitely make another one.

Creating four mixed media collages: watercolor and magazine fonts (music only)

I brought out my art journal and created four mixed media collages using watercolor and magazine fonts. This 6" square art journal has 80lb drawing paper for the signatures. Watercolor reacts differently on this paper than it does on water color paper. I like the texture and variation of colors I get when using this paper. I'm not looking for a perfect ground for the collages. This video is longer than my usual videos, so I hope you like this format. I'm interested in knowing if you like longer format videos.

A slight spoiler alert! I found that the used calculator tape reacted differently to matte medium when I put it on the journal page. My guess is that I used more matte medium on the journal page than I did on the test.
