Ebb and Flow

I just finished up another artwork for the mini group, Serendipity Art Group. The theme this time is Ebb and Flow. I thought it would be a great opportunity to combine the two techniques that I've been playing around with lately - Rayna Gillman's stitch therapy and Gwen Hedley's woven grounds. This 12"x12" piece is called Wonky Weft and Warp.

HGA’s Convergence® 2012 Long Beach

This past weekend, my friend, Madeleine and I went to the Handweavers Guild of America Convergence Convention in Long Beach, CA.

The art exhibit was so inspiring but I couldn't take any photos. Discharge fabric was very popular technique. There were garments made from unusual material such as rubber and fiber optics. Also, 2 pieces made with used teabags, which I loved.

I was allowed to photography the Longitude Yardage exhibit that was hanging Promenade Lobby.

The Burbank Public Library Northwest Branch has an unique sculpture on the front lawn. I couldn't help myself, I took a ton of photos.

The photo below really inspired me. A recent night when I couldn't sleep, I decided to make a quick watercolor sketch.

A few months ago, I was having a phone conversation with my dear friend and fellow artist, Gene Brown about Spoonflower. He hadn't heard of the website at the time but was intrigue with the concept.

Last Saturday I made my way down to Olde Towne Santa Ana for the First Saturday Art Walk. My friend and fellow artist, Teresa Shippy, had her fiber art at Avantgarden Gallery located in the Santora Building of the Arts. It was wonderful to see her fiber art being shown with photography and paintings. It was very crowded but I was able to get some photos.

One of my creative goals for this year is get better acquinted with my camera. It's a great way to train the eye to see design possibilities. Now that this year is half over with, I thought that I better get started. My intention is to post photos every Friday. Let's see how that works out.

On the way home from delivering artwork the other day, I stopped at the Great Heron Gates at Rattlesnake Park, which is part of the Los Angeles River Greenway. It's located at the corner of Fletcher Dr. and Ripple St. The gates were designed by sculpture Brett Goldstone in 1999. 

It was a bit of a challenge due to the overgrown foliage and the time of day. These photos are a starting point where I hope I can progress and revisit at a later time.
