Collage 9" x 12" - "Uncomfortable Zone"

I have to admit that this 9" x 12" collage took on a life of its own. Its title, "Uncomfortable Zone", is exactly how I felt creating it and how I feel when I look at it. The layout is pleasing to me but the color combination is a bit jarring. As artists we have to step outside our comfort zone to grow.

I've always been intrigued by the design possibilities from sidewalk cracks. They are good starting points to add or subtract lines to make a cohesive design.

"Infinite Connections" exhibit

I've mentioned previously that I'm a member of an amazing art group called Beyond the Edge Fiber Artists. Our new exhibit called "Infinite Connections" will premiere at Road to California. My piece is called "Infinite Possibilities".

Artist statement:
This artwork has 15 separate pieces. My idea is that each piece can be rearranged so the design can change depending on how the 15 pieces are attached. Infinite possibilities for infinite connections.

The show information:
Road to California
2000 E. Convention Center Way,
Ontario, CA 91764-5633
January 21 - 24, 2016

Photo(s) Friday

Now that I've moved back to a city, things that inspire me on my morning walks have changed. Lately, I've been fascinated with metal utility covers. I can't explain why. Maybe these photos will inspire me to create a piece of art.

Collage 9" x 12" - "Swirls"

I'm continuing to explore 9" x 12" collages. "Swirls" was made as a way to loosen up. Painting while barely holding onto the brush was very relaxing. Dare I say freeing. I really like this one.

Photo Friday

I'm not usually drawn to elaborate, decorative designs but I want to look outside what normally inspires me.

Collage 9" x 12" - "As Advertised"

It has been a few months since I created a collage. I've been obsessed with woven paper and had fiber projects that needed to be completed. Instead of going back to small quick sketch collages, I decided this year to push myself to go bigger...9" x 12". I'm not going to set a schedule for myself to create. I want to continue to explore woven paper but still create an occasional collage. Hmmmm? Maybe combine the two?

For today, here is my first 9" x 12" collage for 2016. It's called "As Advertised".

Happy New Year!

I noticed this message on a rock in a front yard of a condo building in my neighborhood. I've passed by this spot many times during my morning walks but today is the first time I noticed the rock. It's a great way to start the new year...to imagine what 2016 will bring!

I wish everyone a Happy New Year!
