6"x10" collage #03152017

I'm continuing to explore 6"x10" collages in-between working on fiber projects. To learn more about this series, please click here.

The multi-colored magazine scraps in this collage were leftover from the first collage of this series. The scraps were odd shapes, which I like and didn't want to cut up or reshape. To be honest, working with these odd shapes really challenged me to find a pleasing design. It's taken me over a week to decide that this collage is done. The final step was adding the solid orange pieces.

Rolodex Project II - Cards #5

Back in March 2016, I started an one a day project called Rolodex Project to create one piece of art a day for 31 days. It was a fun project that received wonderful comments from people. A friend gave me another Rolodex that inspired me to create Rolodex Project II. This time I would create a small piece of art based upon a finished, larger piece of art.

After finishing "Bird Removal" for Beyond the Edge Fiber Artists' "Textile Translations" exhibit, I created this small piece for the Rolodex Project II.

Beyond the Edge Fiber Artists "Textile Translations"

I'm honored and excited to have my artwork in Beyond the Edge Fiber Artists' "Textile Translations" exhibit at Rancho Buena Vista Adobe gallery. One of my pieces in this show will be from the "Put A Bird On It" exhibit.

640 Alta Vista Drive
Vista, CA
The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday
10am to 3pm
March 7 through April 3, 2017

"Bird Removal" artist statement:

Pages from "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "Bye, Bye Birdie" were laminated onto tea stained silk organza. The final step was to cut out the shape of one bird flying away to emphasize the title, "Bird Removal".

6"x10" collage #03052017

I'm continuing my 6"x10" collage practice using only magazine pages. The limited materials are helping me to focus on design and color.

Before I determined that this collage was finished, I removed the color in Photoshop. It's a great way to see if the color value is balance. It, also, helps to squint your eyes while assessing the design. I notice that I tend to stay in the medium value range with my artwork.
The dark, medium and light value shapes in this collage seem pretty balanced.

Photo(s) Friday

The Cherry Trees are in bloom! If you're near Los Angeles, make a trip to The Huntington Library see the spectacular Cherry Trees and other beautiful, blooming plants. This Cherry Tree caught my eye in the parking lot.

Looking up into the tree gave me a feeling of being engulfed in bright pink blossoms!

6"x10" collage #03012017

I'm continuing to explore 6"x10" collages in-between working on fiber projects. My first collage of this series was posted here.

This collage is a slightly different style for me. The yellow with graffiti magazine page was the inspiration for this collage. It's a small piece that I wanted to get a big impact so I cut it up. The rectangles of light blue, dark blue and lavender was used to let the yellow graffiti and read shapes stand out. I'm happy with the way the rectangles overlap each other.
